Cypress, Texas

Cypress, TX  is on U.S. Highway 290 twenty miles northwest of Houston in northwestern Harris County.  It is one of the fastest growing areas in Texas. In the mid-1980s Cypress “proper” had less than 100 residents, although the greater Cypress area was a suburb of Houston composed of many subdivisions and thousands of inhabitants. In 2000 the Cypress-Fairbanks area reported a population of around 350,000. According to the 2010 census, the current population is over 500,000, making it larger than Las Vegas, Portland and Atlanta. Obviously, Cypress is booming.

The Cypress, Texas area ranks 50th in the top 100 high income urban areas in the U.S.  In 2010 Sysco purchased the former Hewlett Packard in Cypress and began plans to create a shared services facility for its North American distribution centers. There are also several major companies in the oil and gas and related industries in the Cypress, TX area.

In spite of its healthy industrial development, Cypress retains a very “country” feel. Neighborhoods in the area range from planned communities with lakes and golf courses to acreage communities. You’re just about as likely to see horses as you are to see dogs. You can find a home in pretty much in price range in Cypress, with homes ranging from approximately $75,000 to custom homes that cost $500,000 and up.
